WashU will become the leading model for how a university can partner with local communities to resolve the most pressing problems of our day and how local solutions can have global impact. Our three-fold mission of research, education, and patient care positions the university to contribute to an equitable, vibrant future for our region.
Our approach to authentic, responsible, and sustainable partnerships with our local community will be the example for anchor institutions. Through community-driven approaches and in collaboration with new and existing partnerships, we will advance a suite of initiatives. We will work to improve outcomes for St. Louis children and youth by addressing disparities in education, health, and economic opportunity. We will establish a “Hub” to foster community-engaged teaching, learning, and research through centralized community-oriented resources and infrastructure.
WashU will advance opportunities for students to make St. Louis engagement a vital part of their education by strengthening their capacity to learn from and positively impact St. Louis. The expansion of our clinical and research platforms will improve community access and patient outcomes in our city, state, and region.
We will transform University College to meet the educational needs of modern students and lifelong learners, including those populations who, historically, have not had access to a Washington University education. We will align with key internal and external stakeholders to support upward mobility and career advancement for St. Louis residents, including PK-12 educators and administrators, by ensuring access to certificates and degrees that align to regional job market needs.
With an integrated strategy internally and sustainable commitments externally, we will work with community partners to positively impact our city, our state, and our region. Our broader community too contributes to the vibrancy of our university. Together, we have a story to tell about the power of our collaborations. WashU will develop a reputation as an innovative model of an anchor institution, and the measurable improvements in population-level outcomes will both enrich our St. Louis community and foster a reputation of the commitment and impact of our university, both locally and globally.
