Orient our School of Medicine’s pioneering research to advance personalized medicine to realize new diagnostics and therapeutics, develop new ways to slow age-dependent degenerative diseases, and create new approaches to manage mental health.
Establish “Moonshot” initiatives that bring research and clinical programs together from across campuses into world-leading centers of excellence
WashU’s School of Medicine will continue to expand its clinical and research platforms, modernize its student curricula, and stimulate technological innovations towards the overarching goal of having great impact on the health of local, regional, national, and global communities. At the core of these efforts is a firm belief in the virtuous cycle of the academic medicine paradigm: The clinical practice is an essential substrate and resource for the education and research missions, and the discoveries, innovations, and technology that come from those academic missions contribute in kind to the quality and stature of the clinical practice, its attractiveness for further referrals from the communities, and the contributions we make to improve the health of those communities, near and far, urban and rural, national and global.
Our medical school departments, institutes, and centers are renowned for their research. We will orient our pioneering research to advance personalized medicine to realize new diagnostics and therapeutics; develop new ways to slow age-dependent degenerative diseases; and create new approaches to manage mental health. WashU will establish “Moonshot” initiatives that bring research and clinical programs together from across campuses into world-leading centers of excellence.
Through WashU Innovation, we will greatly enhance a culture of entrepreneurship and better support our groundbreaking faculty and students. We will also focus on changes in culture which are necessary to adapt to future disruptive forces in health care and bio-medicine to ensure that we advance our national leadership in academic medicine.
