Develop an innovative, collaborative model for research and education to meet both longstanding and future threats to public health and well-being across regional, national, and global contexts.

Create a School of Public Health to drive equitable, evidence-based public health with a commitment to partnering with the local community, addressing serious underlying inequities, and generating scalable solutions.

WashU is poised to be a global leader in advancing public health. The pandemic has laid bare many of the serious, long-term threats to population health and made visible significant shortcomings of contemporary approaches to public health. The demonstrated achievements and considerable potential of WashU’s leaders in this field position the university to meet both longstanding and future threats to public health and well-being across regional, national, and global contexts. Our current decentralization of public health assets, however, hinders our ability to optimize and invest strategically in our research, education, and community impact.

A coordinated, strategic approach will catalyze growth, maximize our impact, and earn WashU the recognition we merit as a leading institution in public health.

We will create a School of Public Health to drive equitable, evidence-based public health and to train the next generation of scientists and practitioners. We will develop an innovative, collaborative model for research and education firmly committed to joint efforts between disciplines and across schools. This school will be known for its deep partnerships with the local community and a foundational commitment to addressing serious underlying inequities and the forces that give rise to them. Particular attention will be paid to generating scalable solutions across regional and global populations. The School of Public Health will be regarded as one of the top programs in the country. Our advances in public health will have a multiplier effect on research, education, and distinction across all WashU schools.
